Product Management Business Analyst

Responsibilities and Goals

The Product Management Business Analyst role within Direct Response Technologies is a critical one, in that it aids in the creation of future products and enhancements, which ultimately drives divisional revenue growth.

Essential Functions:

Business Specification Writing (Definition):  To excel in this role, the business analyst needs to have intimate product and industry knowledge in order to create and drive the most effective features and projects.  This knowledge will be demonstrated in their ability to mold the vision of the feature and/or project (as suggested by the Director of Product Management and/or clients) into tangible deliverables that require no re-work due to lack of knowledge or vision.

Business Specification Writing (Format and Content):  The BA will deliver in a timely manner, easily understandable and detailed business specifications, which require limited updates from Product Management or Development.  Another key component and expectation is that these business specifications will leave no functional questions to the discretion of the development team (i.e. Development should not have to ask any questions or make any interface decisions once work has started).

DRT Project Management Process: The Business Analyst is the driver of all projects within the division and, as such, it is critical that each phase of the project management process be followed.  Deadlines and delivery dates that are inherent within each of the phases must also be recorded and monitored.  Therefore, the Business Analyst is required to schedule and manage all procedural meetings for which they are responsible.

Project Management: Due to the deep product and industry knowledge required for this role and when the occasion arises that DRT has major client-driven customization projects, the Business Analyst will take a lead project management role which will make them responsible for not just project definition, but also deliverables such as deadline management, client management and project training and deployment.  These goals will be measured in their ability to meet deadlines and achieve functional deliverables.

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Functional release oversight and bug fix prioritizing to ensure that development resources are properly aligned
  • High-level customer support responsibilities for those issues that escalate beyond the standard technical support team
  • Marketing: aid in the design and content creation for all marketing material, including but not limited to one sheets, case studies, white papers, webinars and presentations

Key Target Qualifications:

  • Some product management-type experience preferred, preferably within the software or online space (or related)
  • Some experience working with usability and user interface designers and front-end developers desirable
  • Some experience with process management and business process re-engineering preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-task environment with varying deadlines
  • High energy and intelligent with a positive “can-do” attitude
  • Team player that interfaces well at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to understand issues from a broad strategic perspective, yet prioritize delivery to meet tactical goals
